Petit Verdot is known in the Bordeaux region of France. Typically, it's added to blends to lend tannins, structure, and color. It is not as common to see Petit Verdot as a stand-alone single varietal. At Tobin James we do both! We use Petit Verdot in our traditional Bordeaux Blend called FIVE. We also make a 100% Petit Verdot.
This is a full-bodied, big, bold red wine with robust structure and tenacious tannins and subtle acidity.
Floral aromas including minty sage, lilac, and violet. Flavors of dark ripe blackberry, blueberry, and chocolate with a hint of green bell pepper spice on the palate.
Food Pairings: Try with Asian-style burgers- ground pork patties flavored by scallions, fresh ginger, garlic, and sesame oil topped with coleslaw tossed in rice vinegar and hoisin sauce. Tasty with smoked sausage with lentils, carrots, and mushrooms. Pairs with aged and smoked cheeses, Pecorino, Manchego, aged Cheddar, Gruyere and Gouda.
